Some moments in a person’s life are so terrifying that even thinking about them can make you feel scared. A similar story is that of Alyssa Pladl. This was an incident that happened between 2016 and 2018 and shocked the whole of America.
The incident involved Alyssa Pladl, her husband Steven Pladl, and their daughter, whom they named Denise. Later, because of Steven’s anger and his bad behavior toward the child, they gave her to someone else for adoption.
Based on this true story and Alyssa Pladl’s survivor story, the Lifetime Channel made a movie in 2024 called “Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story.”
Today, I am going to share Alyssa Pladl’s story with you.
Early Life and Relationship
Alyssa Pladl’s relationship with Steven Pladl began in 1955, when Alyssa was 15 years old and met 20-year-old Steven Pladl online. Steven manipulated Alyssa, and she ran away from home and went to New York with him.
When Alyssa was 17 years old, she had her first daughter, whom they named Denise. Because of Steven’s angry and abusive behavior and his mistreatment of the baby, Alyssa gave Denise up for adoption when she was 8 months old to keep her safe. The adoptive parents named her Katie Rose Fusco.
Daughter Returns After 18 Years
After being given up for adoption at only 8 months old because of her father’s mistreatment, Denise was raised by a loving family, who named her Katie Rose Fusco. Katie always knew that she had been adopted.
When Katie turned 18 and became an adult in 2016, she decided to legally search for her biological parents. With the help of social media and the internet, Katie found Alyssa and Steven Pladl and contacted them. She then started living with them.
However, Alyssa had no idea that her daughter’s return would bring a terrifying and serious turn to their family.
The Illegal Relationship
When Katie Rose started living with her adoptive parents, she had a lot of love for them in her heart. She also wanted the love and affection of her biological father, but she had no idea what Steven wanted from her.
A few days after Katie arrived, Steven had an argument with his wife, kicked her and the other children out of the house, and started living alone with Katie. Katie was only 18 years old at that time, and it was her first time meeting her biological father.
Steven took advantage of her emotionally weak situation. He made Katie completely dependent on him, paid for her expenses, and gave her gifts. He eventually convinced Katie to marry him, and Katie’s adoptive parents also agreed to let their daughter marry Steven.
False Marriage and Arrest
In America, it was a crime for a biological father to marry his daughter. They hid the fact in court that they were father and daughter. To support their claim, fake documents and false affidavits were submitted, stating that they were not related by blood. The couple also had a son, whom they named Bennett. When Alyssa Pladl, the mother, found out about this, she called the police and told them the whole truth.
The police arrested both Steven and Katie in January 2018 because, under American law, marriage between a father and daughter is a serious crime known as incest.
The court immediately canceled and nullified their marriage, and criminal charges were filed against both of them.
A Terrifying Tragic Ending
After the arrest, the court ordered Steven and Katie to stay apart. This gave Katie some space and time to think, and she realized her mistake. She immediately called Steven and told him that she was ending their relationship forever and would never return to him.
Katie’s decision made Steven extremely angry and mentally unstable. In his rage, Steven first went to his home in North Carolina and strangled his and Katie’s 7-month-old son to death.
After that, Steven drove to New York, where Katie was staying with her adoptive father, Anthony Fusco. Steven confronted them and shot both Katie and Anthony Fusco, killing them.
After killing his own daughter, her adoptive father, and his innocent baby son, Steven drove a short distance away and shot himself in his car, taking his own life.
Conclusion
Because of one person’s obsession, ego, and manipulation, four lives were lost. Alyssa Pladl, who was a survivor in this whole case, was left with a pain she could never forget. It was a tragic story that shocked the entire country.
